I promised my team that my Substack wouldn’t become a message board for our activity, and this really isn’t what this is, but with so much amazing feedback on our Ibiza ‘25 announcements, I just felt I had to share this.
Few places in the world embrace music, history, and culture quite like Ibiza. For decades, this island has been a global meeting point for artists, dancers, and dreamers who come together to celebrate electronic music in its purest form. House music was born from communities, from movements, from moments. It has travelled across cities and generations, shaping sounds and shaping lives.
This summer, Defected and Glitterbox return to their Ibiza homes - Defected at Pacha and Glitterbox at Hï. Each with their own identity, but both driven by the same core belief: house music is more than just a sound; it’s a culture, a connection, and a continuum of energy that unites the past, present, and future.
Defected at Pacha - The Romance of House
Some things are just meant to be. The return of Defected to Pacha isn’t just about another club residency - it’s a rekindling of a relationship built on mutual passion for house music. Pacha, an icon since the 1970s, represents the glamour, the mystique, and the magnetism of Ibiza clubbing. It’s where moments aren’t just experienced but remembered for a lifetime.
Defected, since its inception in 1999, has been about house music in its truest form - built from the dance floor up. From London to New York, from the Hacienda to Ibiza, the story of house music has always been one of evolution and reinvention. Just as Larry Levan shaped the Paradise Garage, Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay built their legacies in London, and Alfredo transformed Ibiza’s Balearic sound - Defected at Pacha continues a lineage created by Simon Dunmore more than two-decades ago.
This is more than a residency. It’s about creating those nights where everything aligns - the music, the people, the atmosphere. I have recently written to our DJ’s to underline this. Pacha provides the perfect canvas, a place where history and innovation meet, where classic records stand proudly alongside future anthems. It’s house music in its purest form, and it’s back where it belongs.
Glitterbox at Hï - Where Love Lives
Glitterbox isn’t just a party - it’s a movement. A celebration of music, identity, and the unbreakable power of self-expression. Disco and house have always been about liberation, about bringing people together, about transcending the mundane. At Glitterbox, love isn’t just an emotion - it’s the driving force behind everything.
Hï Ibiza provides the perfect home for Glitterbox, a space where the past, present, and future collide under a mirrorball sky. Here, dancers become performers, strangers become family, and the music is the heartbeat of it all. Whether it’s a timeless disco classic or an underground house groove, the essence remains the same: inclusivity, freedom, and unfiltered joy.
From Melvo Baptiste to Amanda Hamilton, from George Pritchard to Simon Dawson, the team behind Glitterbox works tirelessly to push the boundaries, ensuring every event is as relevant as it is timeless. The legacy of house music - rooted in New York, Chicago, London, Ibiza - flows through every beat, every moment, every night.
The Future is Now
House music has always been about evolution. From the Paradise Garage to the lofts of London, from the beaches of Ibiza to the basements of Brooklyn, it has never stood still. And neither will Defected or Glitterbox. These residencies are more than just parties; they are living, breathing representations of what house music is, has been, and will be.
As Ibiza opens its doors once again, we celebrate not just a return, but a renewal. A chance to bring generations together on the dance floor, to honour the past while moving forward. House music isn’t about nostalgia - it’s about now. And whether it’s under the cherry lights of Pacha or the neon glow of Hï, one thing is certain: the music, the energy, and the love that binds us will never fade.
This isn’t about institutions, about brands, or about egos. It’s about what happens when the right music, the right people, and the right moment align. It’s about connection. It’s about the dance floor. It’s about house music.
Haven't booked for Ibiza yet, but Pacha will be a big improvement, as will Hi. Wasn't impressed by Ushuaia last year as as place.
